I can't remember the name, but I have vague memories of a cartoon about a civilization that existed below the surface of the Earth, and was built around an artificial sun (which might have been dying, I'm not sure). It was on Nickolodeon in the 80's. Does anyone else, remember this show, or what it was called? There was also some neat (or so I remember) science fiction cartoon (I don't even remember if it was a movie or a series) on Nickolodeon at roughly the same time, though I can't even remember enough details to offer anything to jog somebody's memory. Cool space battles, though. And I'd love to see DVDs of Tiny Toons, especially How I Spent My Summer Vacation.
I had a buddy who did one of the voices in Visionaries. He ended up an EMT. Silverhawks - same crew that did Thundercats, but it was pulp sci-fi and quite fun. I have all the released video tapes, but they've degraded a bit since they were cheaply made to begin with.
Bionic 6 seconded! Mighty Orbots, as well (I do have a vhs tape). Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends had a 'companion show' (it was on weekdays while Amazing friends was Saturday morning) that was done by the same studio with just Spidey, but frequent quest stars (like Thor, Namor, etc). Mostly I remember this because Spidey's voice was done by the guy who did the Jack in the Box commercials. Have you fools watched this in recent memory?! I watched some d/l eps with a friend and while the premice is sound, the execution is.
It's true for a lot of cartoons. I've rewatch the firts season of the transformers recently. It was painful. Some things should stay on our memories, but not on DVD.
And a little nitpick: MASK, Transformers, Spartakus and the Sun Beneath The Sea, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Dungeons and Dragons, Belle and Sebastian, Ulysses 31, He-man, Jayce and his Wheeled Warriors and I believe Silverhawks and C.O.P.S. Exist in DVD box. But in french and in zone 2:o DVD box of old cartoons are fashion those days it seems.
I'd also love to see this bizarre cartoon i watched as a young boy that was set inside the human body. The heroes were white-blood cells and used little robotic anti-bodies to fight the nasty germs. If yes, it was called 'Il etait une fois la vie' in french ('once upon a time the life', don't know the true english name). I loved it, and it was rather accurate to explain how the body function to kids (well, as accurate as you can be with a cartoon aimed to kids). They also did 'Once upon a time the space', 'once upon a time the man', 'once upon a time the explorers', 'once upon a time the dicoverers' and even 'once upon a time the americas':D (the two firsts were the best imho).
Thundarr the Barbarian - I have the entire series on 'archive' VHS, but the quality is terrible and really makes it a struggle to enjoy at times. Dungeons & Dragons.
I know this is available in other countries, but I want a region 1 version! Spiral Zone - I barely remember this cartoon, but I do remember that it rocked on toast. I would definitely Netflix this one to see if it really is cool.
Savage Dragon - I've actually never seen this, but I'm a fan of the comic book and would like to check it out. Conan - again, I've never seen this cartoon (from the '80s I think?), but I've seen on cartoon trading sites that it has a huge number of episodes.I'm very curious. This may actually be called Conan the Adventurer, I'm not sure anymore. I remember some really good plots to certain episodes, where the good guys did some awful things and the bad guys behaved from good intentions. Not always, but enough to make turning in worthwhile. Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Mendoza was the first character I ever really thought of as the baddest mother in the world, and I remember it specifically being when this Spanish baddie was menacing the kids, and he was about to strike Estaban with a whip, and Mendoza caught it. I remember being wildy impressed with his badassosity. Conan - again, I've never seen this cartoon (from the '80s I think?), but I've seen on cartoon trading sites that it has a huge number of episodes.I'm very curious. This may actually be called Conan the Adventurer, I'm not sure anymore. There were two seasons under different names: 1) Conan the Adventurer: Conan's family are turned to 'living' stone by 'The Cruel Wizard Rath-Amon'. Conan searches the globe battling said wizard and his Set worshipping Snake Men in a quest to get them turned back.
Conan has a magic sword of 'Star Metal' that causes disguised Snake Men to revert to their real forms and get sucked back into another dimension - neatly avoiding the bloody swordfight issue in a kids cartoon. As I recall the last episode involved Set incarnate on Earth fighting an adult Needle (annoying 'funny' pheonix side kick). There were 4-5 supporting characters that appeared in the series in various episodes. A single volume is available in the UK. Amazon UK - Conan The Adventurer - Volume 1 (2) Conan and the Young Warriors: This series dumped all of the supporting characters from the last and added three new permanent additions: Three kids with some special destiny/powers.
I think Conan was charged with protecting them by the wizard Epimitrieus. Less of this sticks in my mind. I've only seen it available in Australia. Atlantic DVD - Conan and the Young Warriors Volume 3 (Atlantic DVD - Conan and the Young Warriors Volume 4 (http://atlanticdvd.com.au/indexstuffer.cfm?view.cfm?id=5797content). Super Sunday with Jem, Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines, Robotix, and Inhumanoids has never been released on DVD, and we need Sunbow Entertainment, Hasbro, Sony, and TV Loonland to get the complete series of this cartoon on DVD now! I remember there were about 58 half-hour episodes of Super Sunday.
But we need to act now!! So please sign the Super Sunday Petition to get this cartoon on DVD, instead of back on TV, and you can visit this Super Sunday website too::D SUPER SUNDAY PETITION: SUPER SUNDAY WEBSITE (Robotix & Bigfoot): http://www.transformerscds.com/frames/SuperSunday.htm. A few that have been mentioned that are out on DVD already: Animaniacs (first season) Here (and Justice League (first two seasons) here (and here (:). Visionaries, Dungeons and Dragons and Ulyseus 31 are out on DVD (at least in the UK. A quick look at amazon.co.uk shows M.A.S.K. As is Mysterious Cities of Gold and Dogtanian, for those that remember them) (You'll need a multi-region DVD player though;) ) Meh.
Multi-region DVD player AND PAL-to-NTSC converter (which often costs as much as the DVD player itself, unless you're dropping like $400 for a multi-region DVD player with built in converter). The tick comes out on DVD this summer. Here (I'd add Danger Mouse to the list, but I'm sure its available in the UK by now. As for Exo-Squad, the cartoon itself wasn't ever in any trouble. The legal troubles were for Matchbox.
At the time, Matchbox was struggling on the edge of bankruptcy, and rather than actually create a full line of new, authentic Exosquad toys, they simply retooled/colored their a sizable portion of old Robotech product line and sold that under the exosquad brand, leading to a prompt Harmony Gold lawsuit. There was a pretty sweet Flash Gordon cartoon that was out when I was just starting to watch television. I remember it as being head and shoulders above everything else that I was watching at the time. Did that every come out on video, much less DVD?

The 1979 Filmation series Flash Gordon - The Adventures Of Flash Gordon, which was heavily influenced by the original comic strip, is out on DVD now (at least here (I know, I bought and watched it last month. The first series episodes were as good as I remembered (please note, the movie that some of the animation for the series comes from was released after the series in 1982 and is still not available).
The Dungeons and Dragons series is available as a boxed set - again, I know because I bought it. I too would like a link for Thundarr - I have a set of episodes from Boomarang, but would jump at buying a proper copy. To add onto the list of missing but wanted: Cadilacs and Dinosaurs (hardly anyone even remembers the show) Planet of the Apes (this is supposed to be a part of the ultimate collector's edition in the ape head) Star Trek (some rumor this will be the last Trek released on DVD). Dexters Laboratory Courage the Cowardly Dog Smurfs I am also in hopes that Grimm & Evil, presently known as The Adventures of Billy & Mandy.make it in full series to DvD. I was pleased with Cartoon Network for the release of Samurai Jack! As for Thundarr, it has not yet been officially released.
Though various un-authorized versions are sold on-line and commonly come up for grabs on Ebay. I recently discovered is now on DvD. As is the Zelda series seen on the Super Mario Bros.
You mean US TVs don't change automatically? The last three TVs I've bought here in Britain could handle either PAL or NTSC without breaking a sweat. It isn't so much that British TVs are built to convert anything as it is they simply drop the excess 5 frames per second in the frame rate. PAL-to-NTSC requires creating missing frames, so it isn't something built into the TV sets. If you play PAL video on an NTSC TV set, it induces a picture roll that can't be compensated for via tracking settings. The converter typically isn't a part of TV sets over here, as it is much more profitable for the electronics firms to get you to pay extra for a converter built into the VHS player, and then another converter built into the DVD player, and a third converter built into the Blu-Ray player, etc. It isn't so much that British TVs are built to convert anything as it is they simply drop the excess 5 frames per second in the frame rate.

Do they just retread the TV series, or actually get a FUCKING CONCLUSION!
Not that I'm bitter. Ending at the- what, 7th, 8th treasure? Maybe more aptly, noy jhe tut. There was a retread of the original Mini-series, and also a 'sequel' kind of thing, involving an Eco-Witch (basically an evil version of Eco-Mancers, like Teron). The sequel, of course, has nothing to do with what was actually on the show after the mini-series.
Do a google search, you can actually find scans of the whole thing online on some of the fansites. No actual continuation of the show, and no conclusion. Although only two other people I know liked Reboot. Why the hell haven't they released to X-men cartoons yet, anyway? That was the best cartoon on the face of the planet. And I only got to see a few episodes because it showed on Fox and we lived in the middle of the woods where you can only pick up Fox if you tie a bunny with a plastic helmet and aluminim foil boots to the tv.
I really don't understand why they haven't released the seasons of the X-men and Spider-man cartoons to the release of the movies. They managed with every other version except those two. Mighty Orbots. Quoted for soul-piercing, ultimate truth.
I also want my Bionic Six (same studio as Orbots) and Dungeons & Dragons. Then gimme Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and Spiral Zone (I did a self-portrait as a villian with that red scarring one back in the day). I have comple Thundarr the Barbarian and the Mysterious Cities of Gold as fairly clean pirate versions, but I'd pay for offical cuts in a heartbeat. And yes Eric, MCoG's Mendoza IS the hadest bad-ass in all the western hemisphere (at the time:D). I fear old cartons. When I was younger, I used to love He-Man (which has a few seasons out now), and Thundercats (also a few seasons) and Battle of the Planets.
While doing laundry, I managed to catch some Thundercats. Thank god there was soap around to clean my eyes. For Battle of the Planets, I went and bought the Gatchman DVD set one. 'There is a plane more powerful than yours. It's been captured. Now that you've defeated the enemy, instead of say, taking it, let's blow that up too!' Now this isn't to say that I wouldn't want other old favorites, it's just now my expectations of adult enjoyment of them are more in line.
Thundar the Barbarian. Space Ghost and that whole interseries connection where he meet some of the other space type characters (three kids with super powers, the Herculoids, etc.) Spider Man and His Amazing Friends X-Men And more recently, which may be out, was a series of kids who just got out of high school and were in college. I saw most of the first season where the main character was always trying to hook up with an older woman but always missed it. The intro song was a Good Charlotte Song but I can never remember the name of the series. Argh, curse the lack of cable! And Wikipedia comes through again. Undergrades I believe.
Other stuff I'm surprised isn't in 'season' form would be Dexter's Labratory and the old Powerpuff Girls. Gotta have more Mojo JoJo. I mean, who doesn't like talking evil mad scientsit apes?

However, it did receive some criticism, for being more suitable to younger audience, removing the adult content and toning down the violence. According to, this cartoon, like the other two Conan television series, 'has been significantly defanged, dumbing down and infantilizing the character to the degree that he's robbed of his savage appeal'.
